Congratulations, Democrats
Democrats voted Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) Senate minority leader on November 16th, replacing Tom Daschle who did not win re-election to the senate this term. This appointment says a lot about where the Democratic party is headed, none of it good. Here's just a snippet about Mr. Reid from his hometown newspaper:
"Nevada's senior senator, although a Democrat, is a Mormon family man who is pro-life and conservative on social issues. He voted for the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which said marriage is reserved for a man and a woman and that states don't have to recognize same-sex unions solemnized in other states. And he voted for Question 2, Nevada's constitutional amendment that limited marriage to opposite-sex couples." --Las Vegas Review-Journal, 2/19/2004When questioned Sunday on Meet the Press, he would not answer the question about whether he supports the Roe v. Wade decision (he has a 29% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America), and on the Federal Marriage Amendment he said it is "not necessary at this time".
So what would make a Federal Marriage Amendment ever necessary? Perhaps the answer lies in another statement Mr. Reid made on Meet the Press, he fully expects Gay marriage in Massachusetts to be overturned in the next year or two.
Congratulations, Democrats.

The more I read and watch about the Dems after the election, the more I think we need a stronger third party.
Posted by: DJ on December 6, 2004 12:43 PMI'm with you on that. Joe Trippi (Howard Dean's first campaign manager, who got fired after Dean got name recognition through Trippi's use of the internet) believes a strong third party is inevitable, given the grass roots movement of blogs, etc.
The Democrats just might prove him right.
